Ten of America's tallest native trees
All of these are deciduous trees, native to the U.S. that grow up to 100 feet in height. I've linked the Latin name of each to its page in the US Forestry Service silvics manual.
- American Beech -- Fagus grandifolia
- American Elm -- Ulmus americana
- American Sweetgum -- Liquidambar styraciflua
- Bur Oak -- Quercus macrocarpa
- Cottonwood (Eastern Poplar) -- Populus deltoides
- Eastern Black Walnut -- Juglans nigra
- Northern Red Oak -- Quercus rubra
- Shagbark Hickory -- Carya ovata
- Sugar Maple -- Acer saccharum
- Sycamore (American Planetree) -- Platanus occidentalis
